The iGaming industry today is characterised by rapid technological advancements, shifting consumer behaviours, and regulatory changes across various territories. As such, marketing practitioners must stay abreast of these dynamics to devise effective strategies that resonate with target audiences, while keeping aligned with regulatory requirements.

For instance, Pronet Gaming, who are established in LATAM and expanding into Asia, operate in diverse cultural environments, requiring tailored marketing approaches for each market.

Harnessing the power of data-driven marketing

In the digital era, data-driven marketing is instrumental in driving decision-making and enhancing campaign effectiveness. Leveraging SEO, SEM, analytics, and insights allows marketers to understand player preferences, optimise user experiences, and personalise marketing efforts. Our team aims to utilise advanced analytics tools to track user behaviour, assess campaign performance, and identify growth opportunities. This data-centric approach would not only enhance ROI and our bottom line, but also allow for proactive adjustments to marketing strategies based on real-time insights.

Embracing personalisation and customer engagement

Personalisation has become increasingly pivotal in iGaming marketing where customer experience plays a crucial role in both retention and loyalty. Therefore, tailoring communications, offers, and gaming experiences based on player preferences and behaviours can enhance engagement and overall satisfaction.

Capitalising on content marketing strategies

Content remains king in digital marketing, particularly in the iGaming sector where informative, engaging content can attract and retain players. Marketers, whether in B2B or B2C, might consider focusing on creating high-quality content that addresses, educates, and entertains customer pain points. From blog posts and whitepapers to video tutorials and social media content, it is essential to emphasise content diversity to cater to broad audience interests and preferences.

Integrating omni-channel marketing efforts

Omni-channel marketing is essential for seamlessly reaching and engaging audiences across multiple touchpoints. From desktops and mobile devices to social media platforms and offline channels, cohesive marketing campaigns ensure that any given target audience enjoys a unified brand experience. Our integrated approach spans advertising, search engine optimisation, social media engagement, and public relations tailored to resonate with regional preferences and regulatory landscapes.

Adopting innovative technologies

Staying ahead in the iGaming industry requires embracing innovative technologies that enhance user experience and operational efficiency. To keep up with the times, marketers have begun to explore emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, blockchain, and mobile gaming platforms to optimise and differentiate offerings. Partnering with innovative developers to provide operators with interactive gaming experiences, can help improve a platform’s scalability, and meet evolving customer expectations.

Cultivating strategic partnerships

Collaborating with strategic partners can amplify marketing efforts and help facilitate market entry into new regions. Establishing alliances with marketing agencies and technology providers enhances market reach and credibility. Working with third-party suppliers to access regional expertise, expand marketing channels, and localise key messaging points will also help foster market penetration.

Monitoring and adapting to market trends

Continuous monitoring of market trends and consumer behaviours enables marketers to anticipate shifts and adapt strategies accordingly. From esports and live casino gaming to mobile betting and responsible gaming initiatives, staying attuned to industry trends allows companies to capitalise on emerging opportunities and maintain a strong foothold in their markets.

Conclusion

In conclusion, navigating marketing trends and innovations in the iGaming industry requires agility and foresight. A commitment to leveraging data, technology, and strategic partnerships are essential components to ensuring success. By embracing innovation, personalisation, and a data-driven approach, marketers can position their companies at the forefront of the evolving iGaming landscape, delivering exceptional value and experiences to operators and players alike.

Today, the sports betting industry is a dynamic landscape characterised by rapid technological advancements and expanding legalisation. With the proliferation of online platforms and mobile applications, players can easily access a wide array of markets across various sports events globally.

Furthermore, legalisation efforts in various countries have led to a significant increase in market size, attracting both established operators and new entrants seeking to capitalise on the growing demand.

No doubt, the integration of innovative features such as live betting and esports betting has reshaped the industry, catering to diverse preferences, and enhancing the overall user experience.

What features do players look for in a sportsbook?

With a wealth of offerings to choose from, players these days tend to prioritise several key features when selecting a reliable and trustworthy sportsbook. Among their key considerations are a diverse range of betting markets, competitive odds, and a user-friendly interface.

Other notable features that players look for are secure payment options, enticing bonuses and promotions, and responsive customer support. Collectively, these elements contribute to a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding betting experience, ensuring that players can confidently engage with their favourite sports events while maximising their betting value.

As an operator, how can I stay abreast of player behaviour in sports betting?

The most effective way to understand the psyche of sports bettors and keep up with their evolving behaviour is through comprehensive data analysis that utilises advanced analytics tools to track and interpret betting patterns, preferences, and trends.

Typically, this would include monitoring factors such as betting frequency, wager sizes, preferred sports and markets, and betting timing. Additionally, operators can leverage technologies like machine learning algorithms to identify anomalies or suspicious activities that are indicative of problem gambling or potential fraud.

Implementing robust responsible gambling measures and utilising customer relationship management (CRM) systems can also facilitate personalised interactions with players, allowing operators to address concerns, provide support, and customise promotional offers accordingly.

Should I consider supersizing my sportsbook?

There is an ever-increasing demand for a diverse and expansive betting experience among players. By expanding your sportsbook offerings to include a wider range of sports, leagues, and betting markets, you can attract a broader audience and cater to varied interests.

A supersized sportsbook not only enhances player engagement but also increases the potential for revenue generation through higher betting volume and increased customer retention. Additionally, a comprehensive sportsbook can differentiate operators from competitors, positioning them as industry leaders and fostering brand loyalty among players.

How can Pronet Gaming enhance your sportsbook?

We offer a host of signature products that can help take your sportsbook to the next level so you can enjoy unmatched standards of customisation and flexibility. From Bet Assist, that generates automated betting tips on historical data, to Fastbet, that allows players to place bets without having to enter a bet slip each time, you are empowered to increase player engagement and improve your overall turnover.

There is also Betbuilder which makes it easy to multiply your potential revenue by allowing players to build their own accumulator within a single event from a variety of markets, giving them more options and variety when placing their bets.

Add to that the expertise of our dynamic team with extensive experience in emerging markets, both in B2B and B2C, and there you have all the makings of the perfect sportsbook solution for market leaders all around the world.

Overall, supersizing your sportsbook allows you to capitalize on the growing opportunities in the sports betting market and maintain a competitive edge in the industry.

Make the Most of Your iGaming Platform

In today’s competitive iGaming sector, the difference between failure and success could hinge on your entertainment platform. Here, Rafiq Sheikh, Director of Product Delivery for Pronet Gaming, talks about the importance of customisable turnkey solutions.

Nowadays, iGaming has become increasingly popular around the world. Players have become spoilt for choice by the diverse array of entertainment options right at their fingertips—wherever and whenever they choose.

From online casinos to sports betting, iGaming entertainment platforms have revolutionised the way people engage with their favourite games and activities. However, not all platforms are created equal, and operators must continually strive to enhance their offerings to meet the evolving needs of discerning players.

What exactly is an iGaming entertainment platform?

An iGaming platform is an online platform that hosts a variety of games and betting options, allowing players to participate in activities such as casino games, sports betting, and so much more—all from the comfort of their home or while on the go.

Think of it as an aggregator of sorts that groups all content into one place to make access fast, simple, and convenient for both operators and players. These platforms typically offer an intuitive interface that is both desktop- and mobile-friendly, secure payment options, and a wide selection of games to cater to diverse player preferences.

What elements do operators look for in an entertainment platform?

Given the highly competitive iGaming industry, operators seek platforms that offer user customisation options, scalability, reliability, and innovative features. They want a platform that can adapt to changing market trends and player demands, while providing a seamless user experience.

An incomplete platform would certainly set alarm bells ringing. Some indicators that would suggest improvement is needed might include declining player engagement, outdated features, slow loading times, and a lack of customisation options. If not addressed in time, these issues could lead to dissatisfaction among players and impact the success of the platform.

Turnkey entertainment solutions and how they can help

One key strategy to help maximise your platform’s potential is through the adoption of bespoke turnkey solutions. In layman’s terms, this is one that is ready-made and can easily be customised and deployed for a specific purpose.

In the context of iGaming, a turnkey solution provides operators with a comprehensive platform that includes everything they need to launch and operate their online gaming business—from game content, payment processing, and customer support.

What is the Pronet Gaming turnkey solution?

Pronet Gaming’s award-winning entertainment platform offers a customisable turnkey solution that stands out from others in the industry due to its flexibility, scalability, and advanced features.

Among the many key features is its optimisation for mobile gaming, ensuring seamless gameplay across all devices. Additionally, the platform integrates AI-driven capabilities, providing operators with valuable insights into player behaviour for personalised gaming experiences.

Moreover, it enables operators to offer localised content, thus being able to cater to diverse player demographics. Such features empower operators to tailor their platforms to meet unique market demands; whether it is adding new games, implementing targeted marketing campaigns, or integrating innovative solutions.

Operators become empowered to set a new standard in iGaming, delivering an enhanced player experience and driving success for operators worldwide.

The future of iGaming platforms

The popularity of online gaming is on an upswing, and it is safe to say that the future of iGaming platforms is bright, with continued advancements in technology driving innovation and growth. Suffice it to say, making the most of your iGaming platform requires a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

By leveraging customizable turnkey solutions like Pronet Gaming, operators can enhance their offerings, attract more players, and stay ahead of the competition in today’s dynamic iGaming landscape.

Manila, 14 June 2024: Pronet Gaming triumphs at SiGMA Asia

Pronet Gaming, an award-winning platform provider of full turnkey solutions, debuted at SiGMA Asia last week with a stellar performance.

Held in Manila, Philippines, from 3 to 5 June at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, the conference served as the perfect venue for Pronet Gaming to showcase its commitment to innovation, excellence, and expansion in the vibrant Asian market.

Among the highlights of Pronet Gaming’s presence at SiGMA Asia was the “Best Multi-Channel Provider 2024” award that the company bagged at the SiGMA Asia Awards held on opening night. The recognition spoke volumes of Pronet Gaming’s unwavering dedication to delivering leading-edge solutions across multiple platforms, solidifying its position as a frontrunner in the iGaming industry.

In attendance were the Pronet Gaming team from both the London and Manila offices who gave an impressive showing, demonstrating the company’s global reach and commitment to providing unparalleled support to its partners. Their participation underlined Pronet Gaming’s mission to foster strong relationships and deliver tailored solutions to meet the unique needs of operators worldwide.

One of the standout attractions at the Pronet Gaming booth was the Spin-to-Win wheel, which captivated attendees and quickly emerged as a crowd favourite. With people queuing in droves for a chance to win exciting prizes, it proved to be thematic with Pronet Gaming’s ability to engage and delight audiences.

Alex Leese, CEO, Pronet Gaming, took the stage as a keynote speaker, participating in a fireside chat that offered valuable insights into the future of Asian iGaming businesses diversifying into other jurisdictions. More than galvanising Pronet Gaming’s thought leadership and deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping the industry’s landscape, Leese spoke reassuringly of the giant strides his company has made toward setting up shop in Asia, as well as outlining a path to helping local Asian operators to expand their global reach into Europe & LATAM.

“One year ago, we were only at the ‘we will be in Asia, and we are on our way’ stage,” said Leese. “As I speak here today, I am now proud to say that we have the office, we have the team, and we have the PAGCOR accreditation. Next time, I will be saying that we are established, with a much larger existing team, and operator clients on board. My aim is to be here again next year to say that we are well and truly on the ground.”

Indeed, SiGMA Asia provided an invaluable platform for Pronet Gaming to forge new connections and explore opportunities in the burgeoning Asian market. As the company gears up to launch its operations in Asia, the event served as a springboard for establishing strategic partnerships and fostering collaborations that will drive growth and success in the region.

London, 1st June 2023: Pronet Gaming CEO Alex Leese has been confirmed as a judge at the forthcoming SiGMA Asia Awards.

The awards, which take place in Manila on Wednesday 19th July, recognise the leading players in the iGaming industry in a celebration of achievement and innovation.

Leese has headed up Pronet for four years having previously been William Hill’s Director of International, where he spearheaded its push into Latin America’s emerging markets. This followed previous senior leadership roles at Offside Gaming and what was Sportingbet/GVC, now Entain

Pronet Gaming turned its attention to emerging markets in Asia in 2022 following unprecedented success in the African and LatAm regions. The company’s growth in the last few years has funded a massive investment in IT and new offices globally, including the Philippines. That has allowed it to perfect its products for Asian clients, who can now offer localised products to their customers and a genuine point of difference among competitors.

It can now provide a range of operators in the Asian region with sportsbook and casino platform solutions, as well as a variety of retail options, in multiple jurisdictions.

Pronet Gaming CEO Alex Leese said: “I am honoured to have been chosen to judge SiGMA’s Asia Awards and am looking forward to assessing the nominations in some highly competitive categories.

“The Asian betting and gaming markets are as vibrant as ever and it is an exciting time to be involved in events like this, which bring together everyone who matter in the industry.”

Pronet Gaming has introduced a number industry-firsts such as FastBet, which has helped optimise the player experience. This solution enables users to wager multiple single bets across all sports at the touch of a button without creating a betslip.

The provider’s Popular Bets and Popular Events widgets automatically display the wagers and sports that are most popular in any given jurisdiction where an end-user is based, refreshing every five minutes.

Pronet Gaming’s clients are also able to customise the sports betting features that suit their unique needs in regulated markets, creating fine-tuned experiences for audiences that increase revenues as well as engage and retain players.

SiGMA Asia takes place at the SMX, Manila’s largest exhibition centre, between 19-22 July. The PAGCOR-endorsed conference brings together suppliers, operators and affiliates from East and West.

Pronet Gaming is to turn its attention to emerging markets in Asia following the unprecedented success that has allowed it to expedite its ambitious plans ahead of schedule.

The full turnkey platform specialist has expanded rapidly in the last 18 months after providing a range of operators with sportsbook and casino platform solutions, as well as a range of retail options, in a variety of jurisdictions around the world.

This growth has funded a massive investment in IT and new offices which has allowed it to perfect it’s offering for markets in Asia, where its services will allow brands to offer localised products to their customers and a genuine point of difference among competitors.

The supplier will also embark on a recruitment campaign to bolster its ranks in one of the region’s most important gaming hubs, across all disciplines including sales, marketing, account management and IT Support and Development

Pronet Gaming CEO Alex Leese said: “An Asian market entry was always in the plan and required a real focus on ensuring that we had the right product to compete. I’m obviously really pleased that we are now able to do that sooner rather than later.

“The tremendous commercial success we have enjoyed is not only testament to the hard work of the team and the universal appeal of our offering, but it bodes well for new customers looking for an affordable, yet tailored solution.

“Needless to say, we will have to expand our team with Asian market specialists in the coming months to ensure we offer a truly localised service, but I’m confident we will have a compelling proposition moving forward.”

Pronet Gaming has introduced a number industry-firsts such as FastBet, which has helped optimise the player experience. This solution enables users to wager multiple single bets across all sports at the touch of a button without creating a betslip.

The provider’s Popular Bets and Popular Events widgets automatically display the wagers and sports that are most popular in a jurisdiction, refreshing every five minutes.

Despite being just as challenging as the previous year in many ways, 2021 proved to be a resounding success for platform specialist Pronet Gaming.

After introducing smash-hit games and executing perfectly timed launches, the company ended the year announcing it had reached its three-year growth goals after just 18 months.

Key to this rapid growth has been the company’s portfolio offering end-users thousands of betting opportunities across more than 35,000 live events in more than 65 sports.

5 Star caught up with Alex Leese, the company’s CEO, to learn more about this growth, the innovations that made it possible and Pronet Gaming’s plans for 2022.

Pronet Gaming announced that it had reached its three-year targets 18-months early towards the end of the year. What led to this leap in progress?

There were quite a few factors working together in the right way to make this achievement a reality. For one thing, our platform solutions proved increasingly popular across global markets, including in Africa and LatAm, which resulted in a two-fold rise in turnover. In total, we have signed over 35 new clients in the past 18 months.

Successful content integrations with providers including Golden Race, UltraPlay and Sportradar meant our esports and virtual sports product lines experienced significant growth.

Our industry-first, in-house developed features such as FastBet and Popular Bets and our proprietary betting widgets introduced during the Euros and Copa America last summer all helped maximise the player experience.

On top of that, by offering an entirely modular system our customers have been able to cherry-pick the sports betting features that suit their specific needs in regulated markets. This has allowed them to create better experiences for their audience, enabling them to increase revenues while retaining and engaging players.

We have consistently focused our efforts on customisation, speed-to-market and product innovation, a strategy which we are delighted to say has certainly paid dividends.

Can you tell us more about Popular Bets launch?

We released our Popular Bets and Popular Events widgets in October. They allow operators to display a particular market’s current top-10 bets and top-10 events, automatically refreshing every five minutes.

This was a particularly exciting release for us, as it really felt like we had a game-changer on our hands. Offering our customers a localised, intuitive way to immediately boost engagement was extremely gratifying. With minimum effort on the operators’ part, they can be confident that their players are constantly being shown the most popular bets and events at any one time.

Our priority was to provide flexibility of use, allowing operators to display the bets and events on different areas of their sites while also being optimised for mobile and desktop. It was important that they auto-populate according to the operators’ markets, which has gone a long way to making this

the hassle-free and personalised engagement tool we set out to make. We certainly look forward to producing further innovations that can help top this performance in 2022.

The company also saw a number of high-profile partnerships, which of these stand out?

Tenlot certainly stands out, being the first such agreement with a dedicated national and regional lotteries operator. The deal certainly opened a number of doors that contributed to our success last year and this process will doubtless continue throughout this year.

Then truenorth.bet went live in Canada on our platform, which was one of our most exciting launches to date. The operator has earned a deserved reputation for being the country’s most legitimate brand in the face of unregulated competition, adhering strictly to the regulatory framework from day one. This naturally made it a challenging project, but successfully working around these obligations and implementing the local responsible gaming requirements, data protection, self-exclusion and anti-spam laws demonstrated the flexibility and market specificity of our platform.

Pronet Gaming introduced a number of games to its platform in the past 12 months, what are some of the highlights?

It’s always our priority to give our clients early releases on highly sought-after games and Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt was a prime example of this. The outstanding quality of Evolution’s augmented reality products mean they stand head-and-shoulders above the competition in a saturated market. This example was an inspired use of the immediately recognisable Gonzo character within a live setting and a slots-style backdrop, which led to the concept performing strongly across a number of regulated markets worldwide.

Cash or Crash followed on from this and resonated equally well with players, especially due to the intuitive live game show element. With a 20-step, ladder-style pay table, players gain height with each green ball that is drawn. For each drawn green ball, the player can decide to Continue, Take Half or Take All. The dynamic worked well across a wide range of demographics.

We are always on the lookout for fresh, innovative content that adds value to our portfolio and those two releases from Evolution certainly fit that bill.

The betting widgets with pre-built accas that Pronet Gaming released during the Euros proved popular as well. Why do you think that was the case?

Timing was everything with this release. Our in-house team rolled the product out on the eve of the Euros football tournament. This was a time when sports betting operators worldwide were competing more strongly than ever for market share.

It definitely helped that this was the first big sporting event the global community was being treated to in a long time because of the pandemic. It’s gratifying that we helped to add to the fun of that event while also boosting engagement.

What can you tell us about your approach for the World Cup kicking off in Qatar this November?

We obviously can’t give too much away at this point. It’s safe to say that once again we will be developing solutions that help our operators engage their customers in new and more intuitive ways. The event could see two of the sport’s all-time greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo facing off against each other, almost certainly for the last time in a World Cup, so I think it’s going to be a betting event like we haven’t seen before.

Within our wider offering, we are getting ready to unveil a new system that will enable operators to sharpen their approach to player value and engagement. Our aim is to remove the strain when it comes to managed services and enable operators to do what they do best, deliver first-class entertainment. But again, I can’t say too much just yet.

13 December 2021 – Platform specialist Pronet Gaming is significantly ahead of its three-year growth plan after just 18 months, according to CEO Alex Leese.

The progressive provider’s platform solutions are increasingly popular across global markets, including Africa and LatAm, and have delivered a two-fold rise in turnover.

Its esports and virtual sports product lines have exceeded all expectations with 300% growth, following successful content integrations and upgrades from fellow providers like Golden Race, UltraPlay and Sportradar.

Pronet Gaming has signed over 35 new clients in the past 18 months since Leese kick-started the plan for the company’s new owners.

A cornerstone of his plan of action was the release of a number of industry-first features, including Fastbet, which has helped to maximise the player experience. This solution enables users to wager multiple single bets across all sports at the touch of a button without creating a betslip.

As well as this, its Popular Bets and Popular Events widget automatically displays the bets and events that are most popular in a jurisdiction, refreshing every five minutes – an innovation that has seen massive uptake since its release in October.

By offering an entirely modular system, Pronet Gaming’s clients have been able to cherry-pick the sports betting features that suit their unique needs in regulated markets, allowing them to create fine-tuned experiences for their audience that increase revenues while retaining and engaging players.

Their focus on customisation, speed-to-market and product innovation has also led to a string of industry awards recognising Pronet Gaming this year, including the Gaming Intelligence Awards, EGR B2B Awards and Starlet Awards, as well as being shortlisted for the upcoming SBC Awards and Global Gaming Awards.

Alex Leese, CEO of Pronet Gaming, said: “Operating in all the right regulated markets is really paying off. It’s always great to be on track, but being so far ahead of the game is significantly more satisfying, particularly considering the challenges we’ve faced during this time.

“This degree of growth in such a short space of time is even more than we had hoped for, but we are not slowing down any time soon. We will continue to see that our partners receive a first-class product.”

Ioannis Skoulides, Pronet Gaming’s Chairman, said: “We have seen a great deal of change globally over the past two years, but since taking over Pronet Gaming in 2019 we have seen unparalleled growth and thus the decision to appoint Alex as CEO has proven to be a resoundingly positive one.”

“That has been exemplified not only our by growth over the past 18 months, but also by Pronet Gaming’s nomination for three categories in the upcoming SBC awards as well as our expansion into so many new markets.

Bobby Longhurst, Pronet Gaming’s CCO, said: “These are hugely positive results, but our success story has only just begun. We are excited to build upon the momentum we have generated by continuing our expansion plans and stretching our international footprint even further into more regulated markets.

“The next big step will be attending ICE 2022, where our stand will be three times bigger than our inaugural one in 2020.”

Pronet Gaming now boasts 6,500 of the world’s best games from more than 90 providers and its sportsbook solution provides over 55,000 in-play events every month and more than 500,000 pre-match events a year across more than 1,500 betting markets, with a daily bet count exceeding 20,000,000.

Key to this rapid growth has been the company’s portfolio offering end-users with thousands of betting opportunities across more than 35,000 live events in more than 65 sports, with its live horse racing solution being the latest.

London, 16th November 2021 – Platform specialist Pronet Gaming has added to its portfolio of casino products with the launch of the innovative Live Roulette from LiveGames.

The new mobile-first live dealer title comes with a green screen feature that allows for unique operator branding on each table. Packed with features, portrait-oriented Live Roulette includes a gradated heat map allowing players to follow which numbers have been bet on most during the playing session.

The game also boasts new statistical features that enable players to track the action through results up to 500 rounds, heat zones, the number of players who have bet in a session and the general percentage statistics of sections and outside bets. There is also a chat option to communicate with fellow players and the dealer, plus a favourite bets option to allow for easier bet placement and auto play.

LiveGames is a next generation B2B live casino platform featuring market-specific online live dealer games and branded dedicated tables. Its omni-channel retail powers land-based estates connecting to any online operation, ensuring full customisation, and it has recently expanded commercial operations to include African, Asian and LatAm markets.

The innovative new title will be available to Pronet Gaming’s operator partners globally, further enhancing its comprehensive range of casino content.

Avi Ortas, CEO at LiveGames, said: “Our new branded Live Roulette game includes a set of unique features that no other live roulette table has in the industry. It is entertaining for the player and very useful for the operator from a marketing perspective.

“Pronet Gaming is a highly valued partner of ours and its global reach continues to allow us to get our games in front of as many eyes as possible.”

Bobby Longhurst, Chief Commercial Officer at Pronet Gaming, said: “Live Roulette is packed with innovative, useful new features which add together to make a highly engaging and entertaining product. The attractive branding options that are built in for operators only add to the appeal.

“Having worked with them for five years now, we know that LiveGames produces games that resonate with operators across our key markets. We are confident that this latest title will again hit the mark with partners and players alike.”

Pronet Gaming CEO Alex Leese looks towards the future as South America’s biggest country aims to get on track with regulated sports betting

While England and Brazil fans alike licked their wounds as losing finalists this summer, operators based in the UK could at least fall back on a very positive tournament in Euro 2020 in terms of revenues gained. In turn, thanks to the regulated market, the UK government took its slice of the action through taxation.

Over in Brazil, however, the continued lack of a regulated sports betting market meant that there was no comfort in defeat for the public purse. In a market as resolutely grey as the country itself is famously colourful, punters who placed wagers on the Seleção conquering all saw their money funnelled into operator coffers entirely overseas, as Argentina claimed the Copa America by toppling their old rivals.

With no taxation to benefit the federal government, this was another summer of missed opportunities on and off the pitch for Brazil.

The latest news emerging from SECAP, which is the agency that leads public policy in the field of agriculture, energy and lotteries, is that sports betting is expected to be regulated before the end of this year and fully operational by the time the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar in November, 2022. Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, has already signed off a tax regime that will be based around GGR rather than the original proposal of a gross wagering value of bets. That represents positive news, following as it does a progressive model similar to that seen in the UK, Spain and Denmark, rather than that of Portugal where taxation on turnover has been a factor in driving bettors towards unlicensed market.

What is still unclear, though, is the precise nature of the regulation that will be put forward. It is a toss-up between whether the authorities will opt for an authorisation model that ha succeeded in Spain and Colombia, or a concession model whereby only a finite number of operator licences will be issued. The latter option could see many companies that have already made major investments in Brazil, in terms of advertising and sponsorships, miss out. The large amount of money being spent on marketing indicates the importance of getting ahead of the competition.

Another route towards early advantage ahead of licensing – one that is often under-appreciated by those who do not have a deep level of knowledge of conducting business in the region – is the importance of personal alliances. Unlike many other places in the world, Latin America invariably lacks formal procurement processes, instead relying on negotiated partnerships. There is no substitute for the boots-on-the-ground approach, where local knowledge can help select the perfect partner to gain access to everything from local governors to football clubs. In the case of the latter, carefully selected sponsorships can confer a huge advantage when building a brand thanks to the enormous reach of Brazilian clubs. To give one example, Flamengo has 40 million supporters across Brazil.

Despite Brazil’s powerhouse status – Goldman Sachs research indicates it will become the world’s seventh-largest economy by 2050 – there are some misconceptions that abound about how to engage with its bettors. While some industry voices have stressed the need to tropicalise content, I believe that this does not tally with the evidence collected from experiences within Brazil’s grey market. A sportsbook offering that is very similar to what is presented in the similarly football-obsessed western world has been proven to achieve great results, as has going to market with a huge range of casino products. The ordering of a sportsbook to highlight regionally popular leagues is important, but only as much as in every other location. One vertical that no operator entering Brazil can afford to ignore is esports. Despite having been around for two decades, the popularity of CS:GO shows no sign of slowing down and our experience is that conversion is driven through offering a customisable approach to skins and enhanced visuals, including weaponry. There is significant real-world value in such items, which can be wagered.

As we approach a potentially exciting juncture for the sports betting industry in Brazil, it is also vital that European operators don’t get complacent. Big names that expect to automatically get a seat at the top table through reputation alone could end up very disappointed. As we grow across Latin America, where we now have a presence in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Peru, we have become involved in a variety of projects with lotteries, media organisations and sporting bodies. The lesson we would impart from such activity is to never take anything for granted and to take time to understand the culture of business and the needs of specific market, or else risk the same sinking feeling as Brazil’s footballers did this summer.

Pronet Gaming’s CCO spoke to YOGONET, revealing the company is working on “new ways to offer an edge in terms of acquisition and retention” for the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup, following the success of sports betting widgets developed for Euro 2020 and Copa America earlier this year. He reflects on trends in the LatAm market and what should market entrants pay attention to in the region. The executive also discusses recent company developments and plans for the next year.
Q. How are Pronet Gaming and its partners preparing for the Qatar 2022 World Cup? What developments are you working on?

The World Cup 2022 is only a year away and, despite all the controversy surrounding the selection of Qatar as host, the excitement is starting to build – not least because it’s probably the last time we will see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi together in the same international tournament.

Naturally, it presents a massive opportunity for us and our operator partners. While we can’t reveal too much at this stage, it’s safe to say that we will once again be working on ways to offer an edge in terms of acquisition and retention following the success of the bespoke sports betting widgets we developed before Euro 2020 and the Copa America earlier this year.

Q. Latin American people are really passionate about soccer and, in the last year, new sports betting operators have emerged in this territory. What should these new market entrants pay attention to amid such competition? What cannot be allowed to take them by surprise?

It’s true that we have seen an increase in online activity across the region, with a trend of many land-based operations making the transition into digital for the first time. We see this as a positive trend and one that perfectly tallies with our on-the-ground expertise and technology.

There are certainly some key elements that providers must consider if they are to help operator partners make a splash in a crowded online marketplace. One such factor is the need to listen to what customers are asking for, rather than imposing a set product on them. Bespoke platform solutions, which take into account differing needs and markets, are far superior to the “cookie cutter” approach.

Q. Land-based casinos are aiming to enter online gambling, including solid and well-established online operators and lotteries. Where does Pronet Gaming see additional business opportunities in Latin America and why?

In general, the LatAm market is booming as we continue to see a widespread move towards regulation. This offers significant opportunities in the region for those established operator brands that have widespread recognition from potential online players.

We’re working with operators in Brazil, where there is a sports-mad population and where we hope the regulated market will be up and fully operational before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar. We also see major opportunities in Mexico, Argentina and Peru, and we are active in these countries in helping retail brands to take their operations online. It’s a fascinating and exciting region, where we’re glad to be working alongside lotteries, media organizations and sporting bodies.

Q. What kind of new providers and content are you looking for?

In North America, we recently completed a deal with Canada’s truenorth.bet where we were able to provide a host of betting markets that hold specific appeal to that region and, in LatAm, the localization of content will continue to be an important factor to consider as we continue to expand.

In terms of casino content, a comprehensive portfolio of video bingos is a must for many of the region’s online operators, and esports is a growing vertical in which customers expect round-the-clock events with In-Play betting opportunities.

Q. The company is clearly growing. What goals do you have for 2022?

We aim to continue to burnish our reputation as the go-to platform provider for emerging markets, with an eye on traditional markets as we continue to expedite the rollout of our services into more jurisdictions. Our focus on true product localization and customization through bespoke UI/UX plays a big part in that. This is particularly important within LatAm, where every country has unique challenges ranging from payments and technical infrastructure to network and connectivity.

A deep understanding of the landscape is key to achieving success within it and, given the vast knowledge that our team possesses, we are very excited about what next year will bring for the business.

19 October, 2021 – Emerging markets platform specialist Pronet Gaming has significantly boosted its offering with the addition of proprietary Popular Bets and Popular Events widgets, which show players the market’s current top-10 bets and top-10 events, automatically refreshing every five minutes.

The innovation promises flexibility of use, allowing operators to display to different areas of their sites, and is optimised for both mobile and desktop and crucially they auto-populate according to an operator’s markets, creating a hassle-free, personalised engagement tool.

The Popular Bets and Popular Events widgets work at an operator level, not platform-wide. This means the betting options that are presented are determined according to each site, given the operator’s traffic, offering advanced customisation for Pronet Gaming’s clients across the globe.

This follows the company’s highly engaging and successful sports betting widgets that were rolled out ahead of Euro 2020 and Copa América.
The new modules illustrate Pronet Gaming’s commitment to localisation and innovation in emerging markets where it is quickly establishing itself as the go-to platform provider.

Tommy Molloy, Sportsbook and Trading Director at Pronet Gaming, said: “This is an exciting development for Pronet Gaming and an ideal way to continuously enhance player engagement. With minimum effort on the operators’ part, they can be confident that their players are constantly being shown the most popular bets and events at any one time.

“The operator-specific element is particularly important, enabling them to differentiate from one another effectively, with the top-10 bets and events being distinct from operator to operator. This is a true game-changer, allowing our clients to deliver faster, more localised betting for their players.”
